The Value of Self Control

Self Respect

Founder - Editor - Host

Self-Control is, in part, the physiological and psychological facet of dressing for success.  The part of you that learns to listen when you would rather blurt out a response; the part that modulates your voice and chooses vocabulary that matches the situation; the part that thinks before taking action; the part that takes action on well-chosen items, and delegates items of less importance to those who work for you.

"We create stress for ourselves because you feel like you have to do it. You don't have to. I don't feel that anymore," says Oprah Winfrey.  She continues, "It doesn't matter who you are, where you come from. The ability to triumph begins with you.  Always."  Winfrey has developed the ability to master decision, and to separate the trivial from more consequential matters.  She alleviates herself of unnecessary stress, and remains in greater control of her responsibilities.

Anthony Robbins and the gurus of Neurolinguistic Programming speak of the importance of modeling people who are already successful in order to achieve success at a quicker pace.  Others who have achieved great success have been careful to observe others, and to model what they see.  Oprah Winfrey wrote, "I knew there was a way out. I knew there was another kind of life because I had read about it. I knew there were other places, and there was another way of being."

This woman, who has achieved such an admirable level of success, took what she saw and converted her own being, taking great care to change those things about herself that did not fit with that image, and adapting her thoughts, actions and outer image to fit into the role she wanted to live.  Although she did not have the advantages of growing up in this type of environment, the power of reading transformed her idea of the world.  Books enabled her to build a dream network that could be passed on to other women.

Control over self is a powerful tool in your walk to success.
