In her story, the
writer expressed deep frustration at her own lack of
organization. She had finally secured a phone interview with
“The Donald,” but had not taken the time to assure that her
equipment was top-notch and in flawless working order. Caught
in a situation in which she was pressed-for-time, she was
forced to use her cell phone. She had expected to use a normal
voice recorder with the phone set on “hands-free,” but the
connection was fading in-and-out, and her recorder was not
picking up the sound well. As a result, her illustrious
interviewee cut the call short, due to his own frustration
with the connection. She recognized her own lack of
professionalism. Worse yet, she realized that her poor
judgment would prevent her from future interviews with Mr.
Trump. If she had her priorities straight, she may have
significantly reinforced her career with an open line to this
notable contact.
As a business-person, you may be in a situation that requires
tedious attention to details –one that will only be available
during a conference call or phone interview. Don’t get caught
making a bad call. For a clear recording, I would recommend
using the Olympus Digital Voice Recorder WS300M with an
Olympus TP7 phone-recording device. Be aware that Federal law
requires you to notify the other party prior to recording the
conversation. With approval, you will be able to record both
sides of the conversation. The device is highly sensitive, so
it will pick up the softest voices. It does work better when
using a land-line – cell phones add unwanted background noise.
With a digital voice recorder, you will need to use the PA3
plug adapter. You will plug the device into the mic jack of
the recorder. Then, put the earpiece into your ear. The size
of the earpiece can get a bit uncomfortable during a long
conversation, but it is still better than missing any
significant details.
A few more details for the techie oriented: It includes a
monaural 3.5 mm mini-plug to monaural 2.5 mm mini-plug
adapter. It also includes an adapter to convert from monaural
3.5 mm mini plug to stereo 3.5 mm mini-plug.
