Stretching Toward Success

Ignite Your Passion

Founder - Editor - Host

My dear friend and mentor, Mike Litman, sent me a card in the mail a while back.  A simple white postcard, like a message in a bottle.  One difference, however.  A message in a bottle is usually an S.O.S., alerting others that you are in some perilous situation.

This was different.  It was straightforward in its message:  "Nothing great has ever been achieved without stretching.  Mike Litman"  It made me think about what I might be able to achieve.

Do you think about doing lofty things?  You did as a child.  I am willing to bet that you saw yourself as a courageous fireman, or an animal trainer in the circus.  You may have seen yourself in Switzerland, talking with Heads of State in your capacity as an ambassador, or as a famous bull fighter, landing the perfect blow to a wild, overly-aggressive male.  Perhaps you were an astronaut in the Space Program, inspired by “one small step for man, one giant step for mankind.”  What happened to those dreams?  Has fear conquered all?  Is it enough to just get through the day?

Franz Metcalf and B.J. Gallagher Hateley wrote, "Work is like tennis:  If you play with someone better than you, the challenge and stimulation will stretch your game."   That is why competition is so good for us.  The challenge and stimulation actually stirs up the juices in your mind, making you sharper...making you better...making you expect more of yourself, and achieving great things for the effort.  Don’t accept mediocrity.  It is the price of giving up.

Willy Jolly, motivational speaker, jazz musician and author, says that you should never accept B's or C's or D's in life.  Only excellence, or nothing!  Only A's or nothing!  Only greatness, or nothing!  After all, why try to achieve half-heartedly?  If you want to succeed, you need to follow that recipe for success, and that recipe is to go for all, or nothing.

Marketing Tips

Marketing Tip 1:

"The entrepreneur is not really interested in doing the work; he is interested in creating the way the company operates. In that regard, the entrepreneur is an inventor. He or she loves to invent, but does not love to manufacture or sell or distribute what he or she invents." -- Michael Gerber

Marketing Tip 2:

"Most new jobs won’t come from our biggest employers. They will come from our smallest. We’ve got to do everything we can to make entrepreneurial dreams a reality." -- Ross Perot
