During certain interviews, you may be working with a professional who fully understands how a writer uses the Q & A session, and may wish to have you backtrack in order to re-state the answer to a question. In other cases, you may be making your own recordings during periods of travel, and prefer to keep only statements that you can use in each frome, without the necessity of weeding through a lot of time-wasting audio. This cannot be done with the typical hand-held digital voice recorder; however, re-recording over previous material is no problem for a microcassette recorder, so it is often the preferred tech tool for professionals.

Care must be taken in choosing a recorder that picks up the voice, and not the background rumble of the tape as it rolls through the unit. The Sony M-673 V is a cut above most microcassette recorders, with its highly engineered “Clear Voice Plus” recording system. This little, sophisticated giant has great functionality for on-the-road recording: It automatically stops recording during silent pauses, and has a “fast playback” function, which allows 20% faster playback than the rate of a normal voice recording.

It uses two AA batteries, but is equipped with a charger for greater versatility. A battery-level indicator allows you to keep track of the juice left in your batteries, so you are not “caught” during a critical moment of recording. The 3-digit tape counter adds another dimension of functionality – you can make note of important spots for easier find of important material.

It also has jacks for mics, earphones and AC/DC power supply.

Included in the package is a charger, AC adaptor and 2 rechargeable batteries. Because of the ease-of-use and clarity of recording, the Sony M-673V Microcassette Voice Recorder is considered a good choice for the average cost of $69.99.

CQ Web Wide Success Quote:

"Experience is not a matter of having actually swum the Hellespont, or danced with the dervishes, or slept in a doss-house. It is a matter of sensibility and intuition, of seeing, and hearing the significant thing, of paying attention at the right moments, of understanding and coordinating. Experience is not what happens to a man; it is what a man does with what happens to him.” -- Aldous Huxley
