Self Mastery

Founder - Editor - Host

Edward William Bok, publisher and editor of The Ladies Home Journal from 1889 to 1919, said, "A young person, to achieve, must first get out of his mind any notion either of the ease or rapidity of success. Nothing ever just happens in this world."

In Bok's fascinating autobiography, he points out that the truly great authors - people like Rudyard Kipling, Mark Twain, and Woodrow Wilson - never minded their works being edited.  The best among them submitted fully complete manuscripts, and expected that there would be modifications, as determined by the experienced Bok.  They realized that modifications were necessary, if the material was to be accepted by the intelligent American woman, to whom the magazine was targeted.

No one comes with all the knowledge.  No one has all the answers.  It is up to you to stay open to the integration of ideas that will create greater success.

You must be self-determining.  If you want your life to be a reflection of your dreams, you must first examine your life as it is. Upon clear examination, you will see some gaps.  Examine those gaps to determine the action you need to take to get you closer to your dream.  You may need to acquire better skills for writing or communication; you may need to bolster your knowledge of computer technology;  you may need to learn more about taxes or business systems.  You may need to learn how to connect with your customers in a more effective way.

Whatever it is, decide today to take the action necessary to fill in the gaps.  "It is hard for an empty bag to stand upright," wrote Benjamin Franklin.  Add to your personal worth, and it will overflow into all parts of your life.

"The bad news is time flies. The good news is you're the pilot," wrote Michael Althsuler.
