Self-Confidence

Norman Vincent Peale wrote, "One of the greatest moments in
anybody's developing experience is when he no longer tries to
hide from himself but determines to get acquainted with
himself as he really is." It is surprising how many people
try to convince others of their worth by presenting who they
think others admire, rather than presenting themselves as they
are. Those who have experience quickly recognize these people
as frauds. Frauds lose credibility, and find it difficult to
gain it back.
Being confident in your own abilities is a huge step. Every
person is created with unique abilities to enhance the lives
of others in a profound way. "I was always looking outside
myself for strength and confidence but it comes from within.
It is there all the time," wrote Anna Freud. When you
recognize these abilities and set them into action, you will
begin to move toward success at a rapid rate.
It takes courage to display your talents because they are what
makes you different from others. Therein lies the great
quandary. You want to succeed, but succeeding will make you
different. So different that you will need to have faith in
self, enough to endure the criticism that will befall you from
the naysayers. "If I have the belief that I can do it, I
shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not
have it at the beginning," said Mahatma Gandhi.
If you are not yet a world-renowned authority, it is much
better to present yourself as one who is in the process of
learning. Place the focus on the expert. This will not
diminish how you are viewed; rather, it will establish the
position that you recognize and revere those professionals who
have become virtuosos. You synergize with them. You become a
part of their success.
Make a serious commitment to take action in order to ignite
your dreams. Allow the burning desire within yourself to
carry you into the unknown. Hold your head up. Walk with
confidence, and make your dream happen.
