"If you were to listen to others and yourself, you will notice
that those people who are confident use a certain vocabulary
and those lacking confidence use an entirely different
vocabulary," says Ken Sayre. Vocabulary is a reflection of
your thought patterns. It shows your mental syntax, that
which allows you the privilege to succeed. Excellent public
speakers are well aware of this difference. Before a speaking
engagement, they research the demographics for their most
likely audience (executives, secretaries, club members of
varying backgrounds, male or female audiences, etc.) and craft
their talk with appropriate vocabulary, anecdotes, references
and humor. Otherwise, they run the risk of alienating the
attendees, or not having them understand their points.
When you allow yourself the joy of experiencing success, you
open up a path to greater opportunity. You purge your fears,
knowing that each opportunity will take you to greater
heights. "Each handicap is like a hurdle in a steeplechase,
and when you ride up to it, if you throw your heart over, the
horse will go along too," wrote Lawrence Bixby.
Og Mandino authored books centered on the Science of Value.
His books have sold over 40 million copies, and have been
translated in 22 languages. One might say he is a universal
author, one who speaks to the heart of humanity. Of success
he wrote, "Obstacles are necessary for success because in
selling, as in all careers of importance, victory comes only
after many struggles and countless defeats. Yet each struggle,
each defeat, sharpens your skills and strengths, your courage
and your endurance, your ability and your confidence and thus
each obstacle is a comrade-in-arms forcing you to become
better…or quit. Each rebuff is an opportunity to move forward;
turn away from them, avoid them, and you throw away your
future."
The more you challenge yourself to push ahead and gain
knowledge, the less you will fear defeat. "When you reach the
state of unstoppable confidence, you will have ultimate belief
in yourself. You will know you can do anything you choose to
do," continues Ken Sayre. Those who lack confidence fear
failure at every turn. They often become paralyzed, unable to
choose any path, for fear of choosing the wrong one.
They are blind to the idea that all paths lead to success if
they are entered with the tools (confidence and self-mastery)
to make it happen. Use the power that you have inside
yourself to succeed!
