I love stories of personal re-invention and excellence that
lead to success. There are plenty of these stories in
America.
That's what makes this a land of freedom and prosperity. You
are free to make your choices in life, the choices that can
lead you on a magical journey that, previously, only existed
in your mind.
I like "The Rock," World Wrestling Entertainment
Superstar. "The People's Champion." There are those who
believe that professional wrestling isn't real. The
electricity jolting across the sea of fans when this
man touches the stage is definitely real!
Quick wit, charisma, and the ability to talk got him a guest
host stint on "Saturday Night Live" and a speech during the
2002 National Republican Convention. Let's see...four
movies, a No. 1 Bestselling autobiography on the New York
Times List... not bad for "not real."
It is a matter of excellence…of directed thought…of absolute
confidence that spills out into the crowd…of a love for the
fans that seems to empower them and charge them up.
Colin Powell said, "If you are going to achieve excellence in
big things, you develop the habit in little matters.
Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude."
That was actually how The Rock got started. Excellence in
little things...football in high school and at the University
of Miami that rolled right into a professional football
career. Then, the hype. Developing the charisma; loving the
fans. And BAM! The sky's the limit!
You can do this too. Maybe not as a professional wrestler,
but there is one talent that you have that is unique to you.
"Just make up your mind at the very outset that your work is
going to stand for quality... that you are going to stamp a
superior quality upon everything that goes out of your hands,
that whatever you do shall bear the hall-mark of excellence,"
wrote Orison Swett Marden.
Believe in yourself and your goals. Think about them with
absolute clarity. You have a lot to achieve, and we are
waiting for you!
"People think that at the top there isn't much room. They tend
to think of it as an Everest. My message is that there is tons
of room at the top." Margaret Thatcher
