"Write while the heat is in you. The writer who postpones the
recording of his thoughts uses an iron which has cooled to
burn a hole with. He cannot inflame the minds of his
audience," stated Henry David Thoreau. When you have fire in
your soul, express that passion!
Jim Rohn, premier personal development guru, recommends that
you keep a daily diary. He tells the story of purchasing a
lovely, leather-bound, blank book for $49.95. He was asked
why he would pay such a great deal of money for a worthless
book filled with empty pages.
The master explained that he writes his thoughts, his goals,
his perspective, and his ideas. He tells stories of the
extraordinary people he meets, and the adventures he
experiences. He creates a volume worth much more than the
initial cost of the blank book.
Like Thoreau suggests, he writes while the heat is alive.
That is when you are sharpest. That is when your beliefs are
strongest and when your power is hottest. Your impressions
reflect the moment. You will never be able to capture the
actual “feel” of the event if you do not have, at the very
least, a journalistic shell of the sparkle and ignited spirit
that sizzled through the crowd. You can capture visuals that
would otherwise be forgotten; aromas in the air that elicited
excitement; the kinesthetic heat of the crowd, or frigid
intensity of a gust of wind; whispers of a barely audible
nature, or the ear-splitting squeal of an engine; anguished
tears, the pallid look of fear, or the charismatic squeal of a
winner.
It is easy for us to be little rail cars, jumping off the
track at every extreme turn in the road. When we become
heated up, like the steam locomotive filled with power and
might, we can literally pull others along with us as a result
of our momentum. We can give ourselves that boost of power
with our own fired-up words.
It is amazing what power you can ignite when you use the magic
of emotional words in your own text. As Jim Rohn continues to
explain, "When that blank book is filled with your thoughts,
experiences, motivations and goals, it becomes priceless."
