Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850-1919) was one of America’s great
writers of prose and poetry. In his book, Little Sayings
of the Great Ella Wheeler Wilcox, Dr. John Palo writes,
"She gave no quarter to negativity. The harshness of life was
but an opportunity to change lead into gold. She was a
transcendental alchemist."
This was a lady who reflected her determined spirit through
the stroke of her pen. She wrote, "There is no chance, no
destiny, no fate, that can hinder or control the firm resolve
of a determined soul."
Discouragement is always waiting around the corner for us,
ready to wash away our dreams, douse water on the fire of our
ambitions, or set up a brick wall in the middle of our runway,
just as we are ready to take off for success. You have the
power, however, to strengthen your spirit with determination.
You can become impervious to these little distractions through
constant habit.
"One thing at a time, is my motto - and just play that thing
for all it is worth, even if it's only two pair and a jack,"
wrote Mark Twain.
There are times when you reach a point in your quest beyond
which you have no experience. A change in mindset can
activate a new world for you. From this apex, you are the
leader, the explorer to whom others look for guidance. You
must say to yourself, "I don't know what to do, but if I
did know what to do, I would do this!" Then move forward
without hesitation.
Jimmy Carter, the thirty-ninth President of the United States,
said, "You can do what you have to do, and sometimes you can
do it even better than you think you can."
A determined spirit will break away the fog of uncertainty.
It will give you insights into creativity. It will open your
mind to possibilities not previously perceived.
"What you have to do and the way you have to do it is
incredibly simple. Whether you are willing to do it, that's
another matter," wrote Peter F. Drucker, success strategist
and consultant for businesses and social sector organizations.
Do it! Move into your dreams. Use the power of determination
to reach your goals.
