The great Andrew Jackson said, "One man with courage makes a
majority." Pretty powerful words. If you think about this
quote in terms of your own dreams, it is accurate. No one has
the same dreams that you have. Therefore, one man IS a
majority.
Carl Sandburg wrote, "Valor is a gift. Those having it never
know for sure whether they have it till the test comes. And
those having it in one test never know for sure if they will
have it when the next test comes." If you have ever been in a
situation that required you to have courage beyond the norm,
and you met the beast - head on - you have a good
understanding of what this truly means. Your courage will be
strong, at times, and it will shrink - like the waves of the
ocean.
It is up to you to constantly replenish yourself with positive
self-talk, in order to renew and refresh your spirit. Pump
yourself up with a review of your accomplishments. Look into
the mirror and see yourself as successful. Create your inner
world and make it reflect on your outer world. You will then
have a fighting chance.
Maxwell Maltz, author of Psycho-Cybernetics, tells us, "Often
the difference between a successful person and a failure is
not one has better abilities or ideas, but the courage that
one has to bet on one's ideas, to take a calculated risk - and
to act." Many people get into the couch-potato mode - the one
that gives up at the break of day, because they cannot imagine
ever being as great as TV makes everything appear.
Recognize that TV is "enhanced life." It is never as
glamorous as it seems on "the tube." True success is reached
one day at a time, with one action after another in constant
motion. The results of this constant commitment become
magnificent on their own merit.
The sun can't "not shine." Develop courage in small things,
and it will become accessible in the larger areas of your
life.
