Expectations are powerful. So powerful, in fact, that you
unconsciously match your life to the expectation. Your
subconscious mind works on the food you feed it. If you
influence yourself with positive thoughts, your mind will
accept them as true; it will also accept negative thoughts
just as readily. Your challenge is to interject strong
emotion into your positive thoughts, so your mind will remain
focused on them and assist you in achieving the results you
want. As you gain success with these upbeat emotions,
continue the process in order to free yourself of any
negatives that may stir up thoughts of doubt, fear or
procrastination. Reward yourself when you achieve each goal,
and see yourself as a winner. "Treat a man as he is, he will
remain so. Treat a man the way he can be and ought to be, and
he will become as he can be and should be," wrote Johann
Wolfgang von Goethe.
Mary Kay Ash, of Mary Kay Cosmetics fame illustrates the
point: "Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn't be able to
fly, but the bumblebee doesn't know that so it goes on flying
anyway." You must expect success in order to attain success,
even if others around you don't see your part in the world in
the same way you do. They do not have the same experiences,
belief system, or desires that you do, so do not expect them
to see your success through the same eyes. Carry on, and
become stalwart in your decision to achieve.
"We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by
mechanical aid, but by an infinite expectation of the
dawn," wrote Henry David Thoreau. Expect more and you will,
ultimately, get it. When Donald Trump speaks of the art of
thinking, he encourages people to “Think Big.” The single
greatest mistake is aiming too low, of thinking there is a
limit to the flow of money, of expectations that it can happen
for others and not for yourself. Business leaders did not
start out knowing all the answers; musicians did not always
know all the notes; speakers did not, perhaps, have perfect
diction or vocabulary. Their enthusiasm and expectation of
success, however, created a sustainable force that carried
them through to the fulfillment of their dreams.
