Perseverance In Action

Persistence

Founder - Editor - Host

Of all human characteristics, perseverance is, by far, the single most difficult characteristic to achieve.  Books on success speak of taking action, but action in constancy is rare.  Action must be continuous and enduring, in order to attain success at the higher levels.

World War II hero Walter Elliott said, "Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after another."  Viewing it from Elliott's perspective, it is easier to achieve constancy – you just keep fighting one more round.  When you feel like you cannot continue, you just do one more small motion.

Endurance is the hallmark of any great achievement. "There is no royal road to anything. One thing at a time, all things in succession. That which grows fast withers as rapidly; that which grows slowly endures," wrote J.G. Holland, author and co-founder of the Century Company.  By taking small, directed action, your move in constancy toward your goal.

Increase your ability to persevere by making a commitment to keep on keeping on.  Envision your ultimate goal, and burn that picture into your mind.  See yourself achieving success in many different ways - mentally, physically, spiritually, and financially.  "See" the benefits of your success as it affects others, with a firm resolve that you will not hesitate in your endurance.  “See” yourself achieving high, lofty goals.  Focus intently on your destination.  Use the resources available to you, and strengthen your tenacity.  Practice benevolence and stand up to the challenges.

Success does happen to the average person when he is determined to succeed.  "I'm proof that great things can happen to ordinary people if they work hard and never give up," said Orel Hershiser, 1988 winner of the Golden Glove in baseball.

Perhaps you need a nickname, like "Bulldog" - the name Tommy Lasorda bestowed upon Hershiser during his so-called "sermon on the mount."  Whatever it takes to encourage you to endure, do it!

Never give up.

Marketing Tip 1:

"Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop the picture." -- Norman Vincent Peale

Marketing Tip 2:

"Some people fold after making one timid request. They quit too soon. Keep asking until you find the answers. In sales there are usually four or five 'no's' before you get a 'yes.' " -- Jack Canfield
