Oprah Winfrey is one of the great ladies for whom I have
tremendous admiration. She believes in passion.
Of it she says, "Do the one thing you think you cannot do.
Fail at it. Try again. Do better the second time. The only
people who never tumble are those who never mount the high
wire. This is your moment. Own it."
"Nothing great in the world has been accomplished without
passion," said Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel.
Think about the greatest moments in your life - the moments
when you experienced life at the fullest. Your most
competitive game, the times you fell in love, the birth of
your child, how you felt about your first car, fighting
through a serious illness, running in a marathon. Those were
moments filled with passion!
When being interviewed about her life, Bette Davis reflected,
"My passions were all gathered together like fingers that made
a fist. Drive is considered aggression today; I knew it then
as purpose."
Human beings were meant to be passionate about life. Rebecca
West said, "It's the soul's duty to be loyal to its own
desires. It must abandon itself to its master passion."
For some people, passion is a common feeling. For others, it
is as sparse as water in a desert.
Many people don't ever begin their success journey due to fear
of their own passion. It can be unnerving to awaken feelings
within that have slept for so long. Once you do awaken those
feelings, you will notice how alive you are, even when you
fall on your face. The great part about falling is that you
gain experience. You know how it feels at the bottom. It
makes you a more compassionate person when you finally arrive
at the top. It strengthens your tenacity. It softens your
ego.
Have passion for what you do. There can be great joy in the
simplest parts of life. You may be surprised to discover how
many people applaud your purpose.
