Are you still with me, walking along that steep path to
success? We have been walking for a very long time, one that
seems like an eternity. As Spring turned to Summer, I nearly
missed the blossoms on the cherry trees. At the last minute,
I noticed them.
Then, as Summer turned to Autumn, I nearly missed the laughter
of children at the pool, and the rustling of leaves before a
thunderstorm. At the last minute, I noticed them.
As time wore on, Autumn turned to Winter, and I nearly missed
the blaze of colors on the trees, and the crisp smell of
bonfires in the air. At the last minute, I noticed them.
Finally, as Winter turned to Spring, I nearly missed the snow,
blanketed across the fields, and the rustic red of the
cardinals as they flitted from one ice-sealed branch to
another. At the last minute, I noticed them.
Willy Jolly says, "It only takes a minute to change your
life." Just a minute of observation, or a minute of
understanding, or a minute of keen perception. Life altering
events happen in seconds. Their impact can change you
forever. They can propel you far up the ladder of
understanding, and open your eyes to the potential that awaits
your action.
With a self-determined attitude, you refuse to back down, a
powerhouse of energy with work-boots on. Tenacity, with the
impelling force of true grit, cements you solidly onto the
path for becoming self-directed.
"Permanence, perseverance and persistence in spite of all
obstacles, discouragements, and impossibilities: It is this,
that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the
weak," wrote Thomas Carlyle. It is this that lays out a
checkerboard on which our players match wits and embolden
themselves in games of courage.
Henry Ward Beecher wrote, "It's easier to go down a hill than
up it but the view is much better at the top." Strive for the
top of the hill, no matter how steep the ascent. "Men who are
resolved to find a way for themselves will always find
opportunities enough; and if they do not find them, they will
make them," wrote Samuel Smiles.
Make opportunities for yourself as you go for the gold.
