Modeling Success

Ignite Your Passion

Founder - Editor - Host

Your sense of reality consists of what you know you know and what you know you don't know.  "You can make your world so much larger simply by acknowledging everyone else's," wrote Jeanne Marie Laskas.  This expansion of your world will reveal to you things and ideas that you never had exposure to - things and ideas that you were unaware were missing from your knowledge base...what you don't know you don't know.

Anthony Robbins, world-famous personal development speaker and expert on neuro-linguistic programming, or NLP, explains that you can advance 10 or 20 years in just a few weeks by adopting the belief system, the syntax and the physiology of others whose success patterns you admire.  Careful study of those mentors may reveal that there are patterns in life that you were totally unaware existed - ideas that never entered your mind.  It is no wonder that success escapes from the grasp of so many!

Carefully study the lives of your mentors.  Those who are successful may not even recognize their own success patterns.  Review the patterns of their lives through the eyes of several different authors or observers.  It is important to get the observations of others, because your own beliefs and view of the world filter-out patterns that are unfamiliar to you, and you could miss a significant syntax, simply because it is unfamiliar to you.

Be vigilant in your modeling of this mentor.  Be exact to follow their syntax.  Simply switching the order in which something is done can result in drastically different outcomes, as in Robbins' example:  "The dog bit Johnny... or...Johnny bit the dog."

Study the words your mentors use and the way they apply those words in their speech patterns.  Observe how they carry themselves – onstage, in the boardroom, and while at rest.  Imitate the foods they eat, and their schedule of exercise.  Observe their eye contact with others, their body language, and the way they dress.  Model what they do in quietude – whether it is reading five newspapers each day, studying success principles, meditating, or practicing yoga.  Do they have a personal home library?  Build one in a closet, if necessary, but build it…and use it.  Carry yourself as they would in the same circumstances.  Assess how they make decisions about business, finance, investments, and travel.  Evaluate their results, and if the results truly match what you are seeking, model their patterns with precision.

When you carefully model your mentor, you will be astonished at what you will learn, and the leaps you will suddenly take toward your goals.

Marketing Tips

Marketing Tip 1:

"I don't want to be just a voice on the phone. I have to get to know these guys face-to-face and develop a sincere relationship. That way, if we run into problems in a deal, it doesn't get adversarial. We trust each other and have the confidence we can work things out." -- Wayne Huizenga

Marketing Tip 2:

"Have you ever been at sea in a dense fog, when it seemed as if a tangible white darkness shut you in, and the great ship, tense and anxious, groped her way toward the shore with plummet and sounding-line, and you waited with beating heart for something to happen? I was like that ship before my education began, only I was without compass or sounding-line, and had no way of knowing how near the harbour was." -- Helen Keller
