Change is the persistent state of evolution. It assures us of
constant renewal - of the promise of constancy within
refreshment. "Change is the law of life, and those who look
only to the past or the present are certain to miss the
future," wrote John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
It seems that some people are resistant or fearful of change.
"It's not so much that we're afraid of change or so in love
with the old ways, but it's that place in between that we fear
. . . It's like being between trapezes. It's Linus when his
blanket is in the dryer. There's nothing to hold on to," said
Marilyn Ferguson.
In our world, progress occurs so quickly that we barely have
time to view the present. The miracles of information
technology have given us the ability to connect with other
like-minded individuals at a level far above any achieved in
the past. Perusing the Internet can quickly identify niche
markets. Search engines enable the average Joe to find
resources, images and "groups" that make it easier to create
magnetism with people having very specific interests. Even
the dating scene has jumped into the search for connection!
At this point in the progression of our world, we are torn
between the rapid innovations that technology allows and the
fantasy of security that tradition dictates. Cyberspace
magnifies the volatility of the global market, while
connecting cultural diversity, and opening up trade that
would, otherwise, have been overlooked. The study of
historical figures, times and inventions illustrate that
stability is impossible - that adversity is inevitable, as is
the progression to new and better evolutions.
"The art of progress is to preserve order amid change and to
preserve change amid order," wrote Alfred North Whitehead. In
accepting change as that which refreshes, renews, and opens up
a field of possibilities, you expand your own resources for
global success.
