The Magic of Self-Confidence

Self-Confidence

Founder - Editor - Host

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "Self-trust is the essence of heroism."  How else can you find the courage to move forward, with the absolute belief that you can make a difference?  Once you have developed the faith necessary to act, you will become unshaken by obstacles, thus assuring your ultimate success.

Self confidence is the first requisite to great undertakings," said Samuel Johnson, perhaps the most quoted of English authors next to Shakespeare.  He compiled A Dictionary of the English Language, which was completed in nine years, with the help of six copyists, and has served as the basis for all English dictionaries since its completion.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected President of the United States in 1932 during the Great Depression.  In his first "hundred days," he proposed - and Congress enacted -  an immense program to bring recovery to the suffering nation, both industrially and agriculturally.  His was a presidency filled with challenge - the attack on Pearl Harbor, World War II, the New Deal, planning of the United Nations -  and it was vital that the US have a figurehead with confidence and ability to move in consistent steps through this rocky era.  He often spoke of this necessary quality in relation to his leadership:  "Confidence...thrives on honesty, on honor, on the sacredness of obligations, on faithful protection and on unselfish performance. Without them it cannot live."

Everyone has challenges in life.  You need to look these challenges squarely in the face, evaluate your position, and choose a path that will result in the favorable positioning of yourself for the future.  With confidence, your success is assured.  "Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy," wrote Norman Vincent Peale.
