Strategies for Success

Founder - Editor - Host

You have the opportunity to create an imprint of your life - of your thoughts, your ideas and your imagination - upon every person you meet.  Even a simple phrase may become something they carry with them for the rest of their lives.  John Quincy Adams wrote, "The influence of each human being on others in this life is a kind of immortality."

You must, therefore, strive to influence in positive ways so that you create value in the world.  Cement your ideas to form a structure that is both a flexible tool - to adapt to the changes that are inevitable - and a firm foundation - to allow the addition of more advanced methods as they are developed.

Concentrate on the individual talents that are distinctive characteristics in each member of your organization, and in business associates with whom you interact in your external structure.  Delegate responsibilities that synergize with individual abilities, and increase expectations with each subsequent success.  Provide forums that will showcase these successes in front of others.  Approach each one with sensitivity to her personality style.  Customize a plan for each, so you can develop the talent within your organization and make the most of creative skills, technological talents, and strong management styles.  Praise often and reward fairly.

You must provide a vision that others can see as well.  Leadership is of little worth if it is kept to yourself.  You must continuously act in ways that display your imagination, and impart the encouragement that will allow others to act.  Ken Blanchard wrote, "The key to successful leadership is influence, not authority."  Openly discuss your vision for the future – your goals for growth, avenues of expansion you wish to develop, and ideas for future markets.  Ask for input, and carefully listen for ideas that can be added to your vision.  "The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example," wrote Benjamin Disraeli.
