Goal Setting
Founder - Editor - Host
"Crystallize your goals," says Paul Meyer. "Make a plan for
achieving them and set yourself a deadline. Then, with supreme
confidence, determination and disregard for obstacles and
other people's criticisms, carry out your plan."
Scott Reed says, "Choosing a goal and sticking to it changes
everything." And Emerson has said, "The world makes way for
the man who knows where he is going."
Goal setting is, perhaps, the most important step in the
journey toward success. "When you determine what you
want, you have made the most important decision in your life.
You have to know what you want in order to attain it," said
Douglas Lurtan. You need to start with the dream. Build the
dream. Nurture it, as you would nurture your own child.
Then, use your energy and enthusiasm to take the action
necessary to move you in the direction of your goal. Every
day in Africa, a gazelle awakens, and knows that it has to run
faster than any lion, or it will perish. At the same
time, the lion awakens and knows that it has to run faster
than any gazelle in order to eat, or it will perish.
Create your plan to achieve your goals:
·
Determine what you want.
·
Define your current status.
·
Create intermediate steps you must achieve to reach your goal.
·
Define how you can achieve each intermediate step. Include
realistic time targets for each step.
·
Assess your strengths and weaknesses.
·
Determine the skills and personal development you must acquire
along the way that will open opportunities for you.
·
Set a plan in place to acquire these skills.
·
Select competent professionals who will complement your areas
of weakness, and delegate intermediate responsibilities to
them.
·
Visualize your success.
·
Check your progress.
·
Modify your plan along the way as your goal becomes more
clearly defined.
·
Use the assistance of others to continue a forward motion to
achieve your goals.
·
Compensate others fairly for their cooperation, either
financially, through barter, or by a show of gratitude.
·
Celebrate your successes as each target is reached.
·
Continue to visualize on a daily basis.
Catherine Pulsifer makes a good point. " In achieving your
goals, you may run into roadblocks. Don't let that stop you,
go around, over, or under. If you are committed to your goal
you will find a way."
Commit to your purpose! “You have a gold mine when you have a
goal mind.”
