The Forces of Quietude

Ancient Daoists practiced the Art of Meditation, or quietude, in order to connect to the world.  They believed that, when you train your mind to be silently aware, you open up a field of possibilities that would not be available to you on the lower plain of thought.  By not commanding thoughts to occur, you experience, directly and immediately, the forces of creativity and magnetism found in the higher levels of human consciousness.

Deepak Chopra speaks of this phenomenon in his book, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success.  He points out that "trees do not try to grow - they just grow; flowers do not try to bloom - they just bloom..." It is our inherent nature to experience success and satisfaction in our life and in our work.

If we desire for this to occur, we must find the one thing that we do that is unique to our own personality - the one thing we can do better than anyone else on the earth - that one thing that makes great amounts of time pass without seeming like more than a minute - for, in that, we will find true success.

Meditation is a continuous process, and can be said to have three stages: relaxation, interiorization, and expansion," wrote John Novak in Lessons In Meditation

Relaxation involves centered breathing and focus.  Interiorization has to do with your level of concentration on the state of being.  Expansion is that state of absorption when your level of consciousness is in readiness to accept new ideas.  This can be a very empowering experience.

You might call it the "day of rest" phenomenon.  You need that "down time" in order to create more effective "up time."  Ted Turner is famous for scheduling a 2 week block of time, boarding his boat with no paperwork, no cell phone and no computers, and allowing himself a "mental break" to just "be."  He comes back refreshed and able to focus with astounding acuity.

Quietude has the "power of force" within its whispering breeze.  It is like the softness of water that slowly wears down a rock.

Structure the time in your life so you will have time for quiet focus.  Replenish yourself.  It doesn't matter when you choose to have this time.  It only matters that you do.  You will be amazed at the power you draw from within.
