Decision

Founder - Editor - Host

You already know that the key to success is taking deliberate, directed action.  How do you accomplish this, with so many choices open to you?

Power lies in the ability to define your personal purpose in life. You must make the decision, backed by firm resolve, concerning your big picture.  Jean-Paul Sartre wrote, "Man can will nothing unless he has first understood that he must count on no one but himself; that he is alone, abandoned on earth in the midst of his infinite responsibilities, without help, with no other aim than the one he sets himself, with no other destiny than the one he forges for himself on this earth."

Do not get this confused with the "Power of the Mastermind" in which you create a group of people working toward a common goal.  Defining your purpose in life is a personal thing, one that must be created on your terms.  The interaction of significant others in your life becomes a part of your purpose, and there is no one else on the planet who has the same life or relationships.

The power of visualization can help you define this purpose.  Picture the end of your day.  What have you accomplished today, and how did you do it?  Make your decisions based on the end picture.  Now, picture the end of your week.  What have you accomplished this week, and how did you do it?  Make your decisions based on this end picture.  Keep defining portions of your life in bigger bites, and you will  arrive at your big picture of success with swift clarity.

Once you have defined your purpose, direct your life and forge ahead without fear.  You will make some mistakes, but that is a part of the definition of success.  "Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment," wrote Mullah Nasrudin.  The decision-making process requires that you make some bad choices, in order to gain knowledge.  This process will move you, in the most direct line, toward success.

"The music industry is a strange combination of having real and intangible assets: pop bands are brand names in themselves, and at a given stage in their careers their name alone can practically guarantee hit records." -- Richard Branson

"Suppliers and especially manufacturers have market power because they have information about a product or a service that the customer does not and cannot have, and does not need if he can trust the brand. This explains the profitability of brands." -- Peter Drucker
