Action

There is true joy in action. We, as human beings, love being
a part of it. Participant or spectator, we relish what is
filled with adventure. A gnashing Patriots' football game...a
James Bond adventure movie...Great Adventure Amusement
Parks...The Blue Angels...Wall Street...The Indy 500...fast
food...fast women...what a list!
Why is it that, in spite of our obvious love of action, there
are times in which we fight against our very nature? We think
we just want to go home and be a couch potato, or lie on the
beach getting tan.
Action is great, until you lose your self-confidence. Your
doubts rise to the top of your list, and you begin to paralyze
yourself. Fear looms up in your imagination, and you become
gripped with the feeling that you are missing some key element
that will be discovered by the "real" experts.
Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich, says to
“begin at once to put your thoughts into action, whether you
are ready or not.” There is great wisdom in this. If you
begin immediately, you are gaining the education that can only
be acquired through experience. The only thing that truly
separates successful people from unsuccessful ones is the
habit of action - doing those things you don't want to do, but
if you do them, will get you closer to your goal.
W. Clement Stone, creative giant of The Combined Insurance
Company of America and crusader for The Science of Personal
Achievement and 'definiteness of decision' said, "I think
there is something more important than believing: Action! The
world is full of dreamers. There aren't enough who will move
ahead and begin to take concrete steps to actualize their
vision."
When you begin moving with deliberate action, you will become
energized and full of enthusiasm. Your thoughts will gain
alignment with your physical body, and you will achieve
greater consistency in your life. You will begin to
accomplish more in less time. William Hazlitt, author,
essayist and political liberalist wrote of this amazing
phenomenon. He said, "The more we do, the more we can do; the
more busy we are, the more leisure we have."
The benefit of developing congruency in your actions is that
your life will become more self-determining. You will have
greater direction. You will have a more satisfying feeling of
purpose. "If you have to support yourself, you had bloody
well better find some way that is going to be interesting. And
you don’t do that by sitting around wondering about yourself,”
said Katherine Hepburn.
