Napoleon Hill speaks of the "Power of the Mastermind" in his
book, Think and Grow Rich, the bible of personal
growth and achievement in business. He accentuates the fact
that all great achievements were developed in conjunction with
relationships between people who energized each other with the
power of creative force.
He points out that people like Andrew Carnegie had a
mastermind group of 50 people with characteristics that worked
harmoniously to add growth and support to their common goal.
Henry Ford made his greatest achievements after he became a
personal friend of Thomas Edison. Gandhi changed the face of
a nation in conjunction with the people of India.
Cooperative effort is essential for success. When you attempt
to do-it-yourself, you are limited by your own abilities and
time. Curtis Sahakian wrote, "Well, you have no choice
but to keep running faster just to stay in place. If you rely
solely on your ability to implement internal change, you may
not make it." Illness, resource limitations, family
emergencies or your own restricted knowledge or abilities can
seriously impact your business without the benefit of a system
of support.
Reliance Industries' chairman and managing director Mukesh
Ambani says, "The organizational architecture is really that a
centipede walks on a hundred legs and one or two don’t count.
So if I lose one or two legs, the process will go on, the
organization will go on, the growth will go on." This
structure creates strength.
These relationships need to be based on a win-win system, one
that benefits all parties involved. "I have found no greater
satisfaction than achieving success through honest dealing and
strict adherence to the view that, for you to gain, those you
deal with should gain as well," said Alan Greenspan.
In determining the all-around benefits, look at the big
picture. All too often, people look at the immediate benefit,
rather than assessing the long-term benefits of an
undertaking. The benefits of giving your services to an
organization, for instance, may not be in the amount of
immediate pay, but in experience, exposure to the media, or
through contacts who may contribute richly to development of
your goal.
Make a commitment to create a mastermind group, with benefits
that flow freely among all partners. The rewards will be
astounding.
