Believing In Yourself

Self Respect

Founder - Editor - Host

"We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch.  Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit," wrote E. E. Cummings.  We can do daily motivational self-talk, as Brian Tracy recommends, but we still crave affirmation from others that we are moving in the right direction.

The great writer Joan Didion said, "Self-respect is a question of recognizing that anything worth having has a price."  Part of the price is the recognition that you have talents - gifts unlike anyone else - and that you need to express those talents through persistent, continuous action.  You need to throw yourself out to the world as you display your abilities.  You cannot achieve this by sitting alone in a room, thinking about what you might do.

Doc Childre wrote, "Self-empowerment - that's learning to respect other people's music, but dance to your own tune as you master harmony within yourself."  This is the root of self-respect, and a key to mastering the success you have within yourself.  "Respecting yourself means listening to your body and emotions continuously.  Then acting beyond a linear logic to achieve ones goals," suggests Lord Dragnys, when speaking about the action necessary to reach your dreams.

Robin Williams, the genius actor who has starred in comedy as well as drama, says, "You're only given a little spark of madness.  You mustn't lose it."  That madness is the thing that sets you apart from all other human beings - that makes you special and worthy of success.  Keep your uniqueness as you hurry toward success.  It is waiting to welcome you as one who was willing to give your talent to the world.

""One of the things that may get in the way of people being lifelong learners is that they’re not in touch with their passion. If you’re passionate about what it is you do, then you’re going to be looking for everything you can to get better at it." --  Jack Canfield
