Set your mind in motion. If you understand that an object at
rest remains at rest, and an object in motion continues in
motion, you will be determined to light the fire of action
with your continuous efforts so that you can reap the joys of
action.
Shiller wrote, "Every one stamps his own value on himself.
Man is made great or little by his own will." Your will is
the center of your being, the source of your ability to enjoy
and experience happiness. By acknowledging your worth - your
right to express your talents - you are allowing yourself the
freedom to succeed.
Consider the four main fears that almost all people
experience, whether in highly successful positions, or just
starting out. One is the fear of failure. You probably had
that one on your lips as we started.
What about the fear of success? Many people experience this
fear because it stirs up two other fears - the fear of the
unknown and the fear of rejection. If you have never
experienced true success yet, you may have been unconsciously
submerging this success because it is a new experience. Even
if you have imagined what it will be like, you may suffer from
many fears associated with the unknown or possible conflict
with those who you love and admire.
The best way to overcome these fears is to confront them
head-on, and experience success in order to put your own
apprehension to rest. Use powerful self talk - empower
yourself with words that spur you to action. "A powerful
agent is the right word. Whenever we come upon one of those
intensely right words... the resulting effect is physical as
well as spiritual, and electrically prompt," wrote Mark Twain.
Create symbiotic friendships with others, and become
determined to share the power of your thoughts and actions
with them. Go the extra mile in your relationships, following
through on all actions. Work with tireless effort on this,
for your friendships will, at some point in the future, be the
anchor you need to keep your ship stable in rocky waters.
Pietro Aretino said, "I keep my friends as misers do their
treasure, because, of all the things granted us by wisdom,
none is greater or better than friendship."
Such is the power of the mind and mastery that can be achieved
with thoughtful effort and the support of others.
