Are you a "Class Act?" What does it take to be
a magnetic personality that exudes confidence, attracts
success, and inspires others to reach for the greatness inside
themselves?
Of
having "class," Ann Landers said, "Class is an aura of
confidence that is being sure without being cocky. Class has
nothing to do with money. Class never runs scared. It is
self-discipline and self-knowledge. It's the sure footedness
that comes with having proved you can meet life."
People
with class are dynamic. They are energy givers. They infuse
excitement and enthusiasm into the task at hand. They treat
every job, and every nuance of that job, with an air of
importance. They put their heart into achieving their goal,
never hesitating to go the second mile...and the third...and
the fourth, if that is necessary. These habits give them the
confidence to continually strive for the summit, and the
determination to ultimately acquire the Golden Fleece.
"Confidence... thrives on honesty, on honor, on the sacredness
of obligations, on faithful protection and on unselfish
performance. Without them it cannot live," said Franklin D.
Roosevelt. Those who develop self-confidence are not
discouraged by failure. They develop the ability to see
beyond the failure to the lessons and benefits of the failure,
to see the failure as the seed from which success will grow.
Norman
Vincent Peale wrote, "People become really quite remarkable
when they start thinking that they can do things. When they
believe in themselves they have the first secret of success."
Make a
list of the people you admire - of those who are a "class
act." People like Margaret Thatcher, Albert Schweitzer, John
F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Oprah Winfrey, Ralph Waldo Emerson,
William H. Gates, Benjamin Franklin, Marcel Proust...the list
could take up reams of paper! The same golden thread weaves
through all of them.
Napoleon
Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich, studied and
analyzed successful people for twenty years in order to
develop the Science of Personal Achievement. The belief
system within these achievers is remarkably similar: Belief in
self, action in the direction of their goals, determination to
endure the failures in order to reap the harvest of
success…undeniably simple and similar.
Have
confidence in yourself and your ability to complete the job.
You will be able to achieve this by making an absolute
commitment to do so. Stewart E. White writes, "Do not attempt
to do a thing unless you are sure of yourself; but do not
relinquish it simply because someone else is not sure of
you." Remember that everyone started at the same zero on the
graph. No one begins with knowledge and experience. If they
can do it, you can do it too.
Think of yourself as a "class act." When you
do, the slump of your shoulders will go away, the sparkle in
your eyes will entice enthusiasm, and your body language will
inspire others. Be confident.
